IN THIS CASE :
We designed a family-friendly, conversational fire pit surrounded by free-standing seating walls as the focal point for this homeowner's backyard makeover. The hardscape setting consisted of a Belgard Cambridge Cobble patio accented by raised planter bed walls with soft curved lines that were installed in conjunction with a beautiful, premier artificial turf yard.
The Client wanted to take full advantage of the expansive view afforded by a ridgeline, canyon location at the back side of the property line while maximizing the shallow depth of the backyard space. Access along the side of the house was extremely tight because of an unusually narrow side yard setback. In addition, one unforeseen challenge presented by the project was that the yard's elevation required the drainage to be installed well beneath the standard depth in order to provide adequate fall to the street.
The three primary elements of the design....the conversational fire pit, the outdoor dining patio and the artificial turf...were laid out in a linear fashion parallel to the back fence in order to provide canyon views from all areas of the yard. A significantly deeper drainage trench was installed to provide sufficient fall to the street for water runoff and lastly, colorful softscape organics were added to the landscape to complement both the beautiful new pavers and the stunning westerly sunset.
